What moved from Marseille to Paris?

France will host the G7 foreign ministers at the Quai d’Orsay in Paris on November 9 and 10. The dates stayed the same. The French foreign ministry cited logistics and the Paris Peace Forum that follows. Reuters reported the switch amid weeks of nationwide protests. Marseille still appears on the official schedule: France says the G7+ Ports Network will hold its first meeting there while the foreign ministers meet in Paris.

What is on the agenda?

France lists support for Ukraine, the Middle East and energy security, humanitarian logistics, and AI safety among the topics. The Marseille ports group has a more specific job: helping participating ports share ways to disrupt drug trafficking. France also invited Brazil, Egypt, South Korea, Saudi Arabia and Ukraine to the Paris meeting. Those invitations let partners take part in the discussions while the seven member countries retain their role in the G7.

Why is there a separate Chornobyl donor conference?

France, Ukraine and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development are convening a donor conference in Paris on November 9. It concerns the steel arch over the remains of Reactor Four, known as the New Safe Confinement. The arch helps contain radioactive material and supports the eventual dismantling of the older shelter beneath it. The EBRD says a February 2025 drone strike damaged the arch and systems needed for that work.

Which announcements would mark progress?

The EBRD says G7 members announced €260 million in support in October. That is an earlier commitment. For the November conference, look for the amount of any additional pledges, who is making them and what work the money would fund. For the foreign ministers’ meeting, look for a joint statement or specific commitments once it ends. France’s published agenda describes what officials plan to discuss.
