What happened in Paysandú?

Pope Leo XIV celebrated Mass in Paysandú, Uruguay, on November 7 during a November 6–17 trip to Uruguay, Argentina and Peru. The Vatican’s account confirms the service at Parque París Londres. In his homily, Leo used the nearby General Artigas Bridge, which crosses the Uruguay River to Argentina, as an example of how neighboring communities can stay connected. Reuters reported that people gathered for the service despite heavy rain. The bridge was part of the message; the Mass took place in the park.

November 8: From Florida, Uruguay, to Buenos Aires

The Vatican lists a morning Mass in Florida, a city in Uruguay, before Leo returns to the Montevideo area for the flight to Argentina. Buenos Aires arrival is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. local time (19:30 UTC), with a meeting with President Javier Milei later in the day. Uruguay and Argentina both use UTC−3 on the Vatican schedule, so the clocks do not change between these two stops.

November 9–11: What is planned in Argentina?

The November 9 program includes a stop at a care institution in Claypole, Mass in Buenos Aires and a meeting with leaders of different religious communities. The Vatican lists Córdoba on November 10 and Luján on November 11, before the flight to Lima. These stops give the trip two distinct tracks: formal meetings with public officials and visits with local communities.

November 11–17: Why Chiclayo matters

The Peru leg begins in Lima and takes Leo back to Chiclayo, where he served as diocesan bishop before his appointment to the Vatican in 2023. The published itinerary includes Mass near Pimentel on November 13 and meetings in Cusco and Pucallpa on November 15. In Pucallpa, he is scheduled to meet missionaries and representatives of Amazonian peoples. The itinerary lists departure from Lima on November 16 and arrival in Rome on November 17.
